Greta Thunberg

A Swedish climate change activist who has become an inspiration to students around the world.

In 2015, she won a competition with her essay on climate change in a Swedish newspaper. A few months later, she protested in front of the Swedish parliament building. Thanks to this, she became a role model for students not only of universities. Around the world, student strikes began with the slogan “FridaysForFuture”, which is often described as the “Greta Thunberg effect”.

Last year, Greta continued her campaigning, attending key climate conferences and joining student protests around the world. In response to her outspoken stance, various politicians have expressed the need to focus on the issue of climate change, and wealthy philanthropists and investors from the US have provided nearly half a million pounds to the Climate Rescue Fund to support the Extinction Rebellion movement and to support school strikes.

Greta is the recipient of a number of awards, and the American magazine Time named her one of the hundred most influential people in the world in 2019.
